I am attempting to open an Outlook backup file from a CD. After selecting File>Open, I get the following message, "You are attempting to open a file of type 'Office Data File (.pst)'. These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Editing or modifying them could damage your system.

I'm not sure what this means (but it sounds bad). What are the proper steps to open a ".pst" file?

Copy your outlook file to your hard drive and then try doing this. It will
open up when you copy it to your hard drive. The reason this is happening is
because .pst files get writen to everytime you open it, being that its on a
CD you can write to it therefore this error.
Thanks

Copy your outlook file to your hard drive

remove the "Read Only" attribute
and then try doing this.

If you are using Outlook when you perform the File>Open, you should not see
the message
