Outlook Archiving

I currently have an archive file which I would like to
break out into several archive files... each of which by
year.

I was assuming I could try to pull from an existing
Archive file by runing archive on it and create a new
Archive file based on specified dates but for some reason
when I do this all I get in the new archive file is just
the deleted items folder. None of the e-mails that
knowingly have the dates I specified transfer over.

Am currently running Outlook 2000.

Does anyone know...
- if by archiving the mail it automatically puts a
modified date on the e-mail
- there's any reason why certain mail doesn't get
archived. (There doesn't seem to be any explanation for
the behavior... some of the mail I have date back to 1999
and there are no appointment, task, note or journal
associated with the e-mail that would throw off the date)

Manually moving is not really an option for me as I have
quite a large number of sub-folders that would make this
impossible to do.

Thanks for any help or thoughts

My archive file was approaching 2Gb (which is apparently
the limit), so I simply opened it (File | Open | Outlook
Data File) then set the default settings for AutoArchiving
to 'clean out items older than 36 months' (or whatever
time frame) and ran autoarchive (choosing file name
Archive36.pst). Then I did the same for 'items older than
24 months', and so on. In the end, I was left with three
archive files, one for each year (in addition to the
original, which can be eventually deleted).
I'll do this at one year intervals from now on, to keep
all the files managable. Each, by the way, can be opened
whenever needed.

I hope this helps...
