Outlook archive file corrupt???

I have a user who, after archiving, thought it would be a good idea to open
up the archive and delete it (thinking it would bring his mailbox limit below
the cutoff size).

The file still weighs in at 400mb but when its opened there is (surprise
surprise) nothing there.

I'm not too hot at all with outlook either, has anyone any suggestions?

It's Outlook 2000 SR-1 we are using.

Thanks
Andy

Why would you archive messages and then just delete them? Why not just
delete them in the first place? And how was the deletion accomplished?
Within Outlook?

Is there anything in the Deleted Items folder?

Brian,
my thoughts exactly!! But the user was under the impression that his
archive wasd 'untouchable' and that if he opened it up and deleted all the
contents he would be saving space from his mailfile. (it seemed logical to
him for some reason, i have no idea why!!).

But there is nothing in the deleted files folder as he went one further and
deleted those also (just to be sure he mucked it right up lol).

Everything was deleted from within Outlook as you ask.

Then he has only himself to blame. Chances are the items are irrevocably
gone, but try this:
