In terms of e-mail configuration, is Outlook and Outlook Express the same?
My e-mail is not working. My service provider says that it cannot provide
support for I am using Outlook, not Outlook Express.

Best regards,

Diane;

Your quick response is much appreciated.

The problem was fixed by asking for the name of the tier-1 support and
asking to speak (aka escalation) to a manager. Once I talked to the
manager, the problem was fixed.

Is Outlook less popular than Outlook Express?

Many thanks again.

The basics are the same between both programs but many ISPs won't help set
up outlook because the screens are a bit different.

Are you getting any errors?

They should be the same, yes. If you post details of the problem you are
having, someone here may be able to help you. Make sure you post your
Outlook version, the exact text of any error messages you're getting, the
steps you've already tried (please be as precise as possible), and anything
else you think might help.

Yes, Outlook is less 'popular' than Outlook Express because Outlook
Express is free and is issued with each copy of Windows sold in the
world, compared with Outlook, which people must purchase and is a far
more complex program.

It is this complexity that makes most ISP's hesitant to support
Outlook.

They are two completely different programs. Outlook is the PIM (Personal
Information Manager) component of Microsoft Office. outlook Express is
the successor to Microsoft Internet Mail and News and has always been
included with Internet explorer.
One is not more "popular" than the other. Most home users use OE because
it's free and is there, (and most home users are not aware they have
other choices available, also free!), most business users use Outlook
because it comes with Office and provides far more "business" type
functionality.

HTH

Based on usage, OE is more "popular" with a far higher number of users,
making it worthwhile for ISPs to learn how to configure, since a large
number of their users will be using it. While a large percentage of these
users also own Outlook by virtue of owning office, it's too complex for
their needs.
