A few times everyday my outlook inbox gives me message saying that I need to
verify my identity, and then I log into hotmail to do so (and have to type
what a text image displays). But a few hours later, I have to do the same
thing all over again. Why do I constantly have to verify my identity?
thx,
Etan

Within the next month or two, you (and everyone else) is going to lose the
ability to receive your Hotmail account messages in Outlook or Outlook
Express unless you have a PAID Hotmail account. They are in the process of
setting this up now. That's why you're getting the verification screen.

now I'm confused. Either SgtRich is right, or what is the explanation for my
having to constantly verify?

SgtRich is not speaking the truth. This has been going on a very long time. If they were speaking the truth they would
give you a link at Microsoft or MSN where this is said. I have never seen that done.

Now as to your Hotmail issue. I don't think Outlook stores your password. It is stored in a cookie on your machine.
That cookie has a lifetime. How long that is I do not know. I just know that when you move off their domain the
cookie vanishes. So what might be happening with you is that Outlook or you are moving off their domain for whatever
reason and you are losing the cookie. Check this article about configuring Hotmail and Outllook and see if you can
redo your Hotmail integration with Outlook to address this issue:

Try obtaining a new Hotmail account and setting it up in either Outlook or
Outlook Express. You can't do it.

You'd better check your facts before you go accusing people of not telling
the truth.

You better read your links. This article says Hotmail will begin a payment blah blah blah (dated September 27,. 2004 )

This is a crock and reminds me of the Teddy Bear scare introduced a number of years ago.

OK I read the rest of it. Why no link there to an authoritative source like Micrsoft or MSN? Buddy one thing you need to be aware of the Net is full of false or misleading information. I'll see what Microsoft has to say about this (if anything) and if what you say turns out to be true I'll eat my shoe.

It has been off and on for longer than that bud. This effects new users. Who's to say the op was a new user. My shoe tasted terrible.

I am making a new Hotmail account as we speak. Let's see how that turns out in Outlook Express. I don't use Outlook for this because I don't. But let's see if it has in fact it has been denied to new users...

Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://upgrade.msn.com

Configuration:
Account: Hotmail
Server: http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
User name: <snip>
Protocol: HTTPMail
Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 80004005

Yup no more new users.

I apologize.

OK Hotmail is dead to new accounts as of now. Supposedly April 2004 is the next Big Event date. I have many
accounts at Hotmail so I will keep some of them offline until April and see how it turns out getting them in Outlook
Express then. I don't know about Outlook. After April we'll see if this also effects old accounts. I don't know why
they would do this. I just got like 100MB free there. Not that I need it - oops 250MB. What do I need that for? The
Netsky is only 41KB. Jeeze!!!

Of course I've had this account from the day it started,.
