I think my computer's jinxed. Doesn't matter which account I'm using (be it
outlook express or microsoft outlook), I can never send/receive mails! I
always get an error code 0x8004210B which says that the operation timed out
while waiting for a response from the SMTP server. Does anyone know what i
can do about this??!! please, it's so frustrating

Which Outlook version? Please ensure that you have all the latest
service pack and security updates installed. If you are running Outlook
2002, please check this article first:

OL2002: You Receive 0x8004210A, 0x800CCC0B, and 0x8004210B Error
Messages When You Send and Receive E-Mail Message with a POP3 E-Mail Account

Some times the MSN folks do not lead you to the easiest solution.. can
you access your email via the web? If so delete the spam, especially
the one that has {none} in the headers or subject line.. I have yet to
see any version of outlook or outlook express bypass these.. and the
end result is your email client ( outlook and outlook express all
versions will time out.

One has to have access to their email via the web to delete the spam
or call the ISP to get it done for you

I just got a new computer with Office 2003 pre-installed. I get time out
errors both with POP and SMTP. When I enter the same server information in
Outlook Express, my email sends and receives. What is the deal?

I had and solved a similar problem with my brand new laptop a couple of weeks
ago. As soon as I set up Office and Outlook 2003 and launched my internet
browser to get updates, I was invaded by spyware and adware which gave me
this same error messages getting emails on Outlook. Per Microsoft's hotline
advice I wiped everything out with a System Restore to get rid of all
spyware, spam and viruses. The order in which you install things after such
a clean-out is important. Before you go to System Restore or going back to
some restore point before you started having this problem, you may want to
back up your Outlook and other files. Obtain XP Service Pack 2 (which has
security firewall features) on a CD, ie, not thru a download which requires
internet access. Install (1) Office (2) XP SP2 (3) any anti-virus software
of your own (4) internet access. You will then have clean access and the
security protections.
