hi,
Call me stupid - many have - but is it possible to set up a POP3 mail
account on Outlook 97 Pro? I can't find anything anywere to suggest that it
is.

Cheers
Nick

OK, so I've now tried to add in the mintec addin (for internet email
support) but nowt happens. I click on the ecf file, and nothing. So I
haven't been able to add in the internet mail capability. Help?

THanks
nick

Make sure that you apply SP2 for Office/Outlook 97. (It will include some
enhancements for POP3.)

Outside of that, it should be as easy as going to the control panel > mail
applet and adding the Internet Email service to your profile. (just
remember that POP3 under Outlook 97 is pretty damn barbaric. [lots of
changes since the internet boom])

Thanks for that. Having come from ME with some other version of Outlook
(dunno which one, but it featured a send/receive messages button - the
height of sophistication!) to XP with Outlook 97 I'm having problems every
step of the way... I have now been able to set up the mail account (why in
the control panel, rather than, oh, let's say - the email program???) which
is good. However, it'll probably take me a while longer to get everything
completely sorted, so I reckon I'll be posting here for a while longer....

Cheers
Nick

You may have more problems, too. Outlook 97 cannot be used with any mail
service that expects you to authenticate to the outgoing server. Such
services include most boradband ISPs, like SBC Yahoo!, Comcast, Verizon, and
so on.
