outlook 2k2 IMAP sent-mail folder and rules

Our users use OL2k2 to connect to an IMAP email account.
Obviously, we would like the users to store all email on the
server, including sent items. By default copies of sent items are
stored in the sentmail folder under "Outlook Today Personal
Folders" and therefore are stored on the local machine in the
..pst file. Not the desired outcome. To this end we implemented a
"sent mail rule" within outlook that copied all sent items to the
"sent-mail" folder on the IMAP server. Now we come the issue that
seems to torture the souls of the users. Mail copied to the IMAP
folder via the sentmail rule is marked as unread. Oh the
calamity, the inhumanity of it.......Never the less, the amount
of grief I get over this would make a penguin sweat. Soooo, the
question is, bar the obvious step the users appear so loathe to
take, ie marking the folders contents as "read" manually via the
menus, how can I get the mail in this imap folder to be
automatically marked as read?

the sent-mail rule is worded as follows:

Apply this rule after I send the message
uses the message form
move a copy to the sent-mail folder.
