I recently started using Outlook 2007. When typing in the To box the
addresses do not pop up. They did in another version I was using. Any
suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

On the same machine or a new machine?

The auto-suggest list doesn't populate until you start mailing people.

The same machine. I can make a dummy email and select all the names
in my address book. The auto suggest will than work until I close Outlook
or turn off my computer. I don't think I should have to make the dummy email
every time I open Outlook or turn on my computer.>

And no, you shouldn't have to.

First, exit out of Outlook and make sure it's not running by going to Task
Manager and checking for outlook.exe in the processes tab.

Then, do a search for *.nk2 on your hard drive. Make sure you search for
hidden folders and files.

Rename the current .nk2 file and restart outlook and see if it holds the
data.

If it does, then the old one was probably corrupt. If it doesn't, or you
can't find the file, what OS are you running?

I did not find the file. I am running XP Pro.

And all you did was upgrade to Outlook 2007?

If you open up c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook,
what files do you see here?

You may need to go to Tools-Folder Options-View-Advanced and under Hidden
files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Three files under c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook ; extend.dat; Microsoft Outlook Internet
Settings.FAV and Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings..NICK.
I upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007 including Outlook 2007.

Are you able to create a file in that directory, just any old .txt file?
