I have never been so frustrated in my life. I spent 2 hours with AT&T and
thought that I had it fixed. I did the fixes with the smtp.att.yahoo.com and
the change of address (465) still to no avail.

I am using another incoming server that is not uncommon. What is happening?

Without a better description, no idea. MS Outlook 2003 (I think) needs to be
at the latest Service Pack to work with SSL in SMTP. Also, there have been
some issues with security certificates, particularly in conjunction with
Windows Live One Care. Have you migrated your old Bellsouth account to "at&t
Yahoo!"?

I've been a customer since the PacBell days, and migrated to "at&t Yahoo!
HSI" back in December, 2002 (when it was called, "SBC Yahoo! DSL Service").
I've been through the name changes ('smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com' to
'smtp.att.yahoo.com'), and the port changes (port 25, to port 587 w/o secure
login, to port 465 w/SSL), and have not had any trouble. Only thing is, I
don't use MS Outlook. From watching others who do, there are some issues if
Outlook is not current (latest Service Pack), or trying to use personal
security certificates (I don't).

Did you configure the e-mail account defined within Outlook to
authenticate to the SMTP (outbound) mail server)?

Since port 465 is being used, did you enable SSL connect (to the SMTP
server, at least) since that port is typically for SSL connections?

If they don't support SSL connects to the SMTP mail server, you
shouldn't enable SSL support in the e-mail account defined in Outlook;
however, that also means you should not be using port 465 but rather 587
or 25.

Yes, it is authenticated with the Bellsouth email address as suggested. They
told me not to check the SSL connect box. I removed the address 25 and was
told to use 465. I'm happy to try 587

Oh, one more thing, when I send a test it logs on just find but when it tries
to send the test email, the message says the connection to the host is
interrupted and if continues contact your sa.

If they say they do not support SSL connects then it would be odd that
they use port 465 which is normally used for SSL connects. Respond back
if using port 587 helped to correct the error.

Do you have an anti-virus program installed?
If so, does it scan your e-mails (which is superfluous)?
If so, see what happens when you disable its e-mail scanning.

Disabling e-mail scanning doesn't always work for all AV programs. Some
require that you uninstall their AV program and then follow with a
*custom* reinstall where you do NOT include their e-mail scanner
component (AVG is like this).

While I, on the other hand, do use Outlook (several versions on several PCs)
and these transitions have never cause me any issues unless I goofed and
entered the wrong values.
