Outlook 2007 New Mail Notification

This seems to be a common issue. For whatever reason the new email
notification icon and alert just stops working. It will be there for some new
emails and then it just is not there.

It may be related to the other issue. Even though the Inbox folder may show
1 or more new emails inside the parentheses to the right of the folder name,
the emails will not appear until opening another folder - Send for example -
and then reopening the the Inbox folder.

Office 2007 was an upgrade from 2003 on a totally current and updated WinXP
system.
 
are you using exchange server? this problem is usually caused by a NAT
router or firewall blocking udp packets.
 
No, just simple connection to mail server.
