I recently download office 2007 and switch my hotmail account to
outlook. However, i am unable to receive incoming emails. I can send out email
but can not receive??

That has been the case for many years, as evidenced by the old KB article number. Hotmail can be used only with paid accounts since September 2004, unless the free account has been grandfathered.

unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without

After furious head scratching, Mary asked:

| Well, MS just updated the instructions to say you can configure
| Hotmail in Outlook. Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287424
| Sounds complicated. Using your browser is still easier.

Since you are able to send mails..... you should be able to receive also...
Try disabling antivirus.... see if you have any other inbox folders..
Else contact ISP..... By the way is there any errors ????

The fact is, even in 2007, you still need to upgrade in hotmail (subscribe)
in order to connect to their server and download your emails into outlook.
Wasn't sure if you had subscribed or not at Hotmail as there is no mention in
the thread. Just an FYI in case this might be part of the issue.
