OUTLOOK 2007 DOES NOT INSERT SIGNATURE

I am using Outlook 2007 on a Windows XP computer and according to the
"help" files I configured my default signature.
Outlook will not auto insert a signature in a new message when I have
it set to auto insert.
I can't even do it manually from the message I intend to send.
What am I doing wrong?
