Recently, out of no where, my outlook stopped sending emails. The error
message is 0x80042109. I have tried to find the problem, but am stuck. Can
anyone help. I am running XP Pro and the only thingsthat could have changed
is microsoft updates recently.

Is this the exact error message in its entirety:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

very close It just starts with "Task 'mail.courtneypierce.com - sending'
reported error etc.

It could be that the outgoing SMTP server is looking for authentication from
you. When you set up your account in Outlook, did you specify your password
for the SMTP server as well as your POP3 server?

It could also be that if you have antivirus set up to scan incoming/outgoing
mail that it's preventing you from connecting.

If you're using Norton, see if they have a patch for it.

Also check to see what SMTP port number you're using.
