Outlook 2003 won't quit

When I exit Outlook 2003, the window closes, but the
process doesn't quit, which causes outlook to hang when
it tries to start the next time. What would cause the
Outlook process to not terminate... I have to "terminate
process" in Task Manager. There are no other MAPI
programs running.

Thanks,
Martin

ActiveSync, WinFax, Antivirus, Instant Messenger, .etc applications that
sync, use, or protect Outlook data can cause this. Find that third party
app and you will find the cause.

1) For ActiveSync, I have found that turning off the device in the cradle so
ActiveSync closes the connection to Outlook before shutting down is the best
method.

2) Winfax will require disabling the integration. Look for posts from Ken
Slovak on the subject in this group.

3) Disable the AV integration into Outlook. Sometimes it is listed as an
addin under tools | options | other | advanced options | addin manager
and/or com addins.

Thanks Neo - AV integration was the culprit. So, I have
to decide between AntiVirus and a well behaved app.

Oh Well... Thanks again.

Martin

not sure what av solution you are using, but follow up with the vendor to
see if they have a patch/update to correct the problem.

Not true. Disabling the AV's Email integration will not decrease your
protection level, provided your resident shield remains enabled.

Turned off NAV
Turned off Zendit (Add-In)
Turned off Net Folders

Did the Maintenance Reboot....

Outlook still stays in the task manager after the window closes.

Any other suggestions aside from swithing to another e-mail app?

Try this another way...

* Reboot PC
* Logon
* Bring up task manager
* Is outlook in the system tray?
* If no, start third party apps to see which might be starting up outlook
programmatically.
