Outlook 2003 won't delete e-mail off server POP3 or IMAP

I have tried without success to change settings so that e-mail on my
mail servers will be deleted after I delete from Outlook. However, I
cannot seem to get that to work. Nor have I been able to find the
setting that says delete from server after deleting from Deleted Items
checkbox.

Anyone got any ideas?

The setting is on the Advanced tab for the account - go to Tools -> Email
Accounts, select the account, and click the "More Settings" button.
 
What do you do when this doesn't work?

What version of Outlook do you have? What sort of mail account(s)?
