I just upgraded at home to Office 2003. Outlook will not
connect to either POP or SMTP for any of several email
accounts that used to work under Outlook 2K. All the
settings seem to have been preserved correctly during the
upgrade, and another home machine is getting mail from one
the same servers (different account).

If I ping the servers, I get a good response.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Try creatin a new mail profile here: Control Panel->Mail Icon->Add.

the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, David Heddle asked:

Is your firewall blocking access? When I upgraded to Outlook, I had to
go into ZoneAlarm and block access then reset it to allow access.
