Hi,

Is there a way to change the default view for outlook
email folders?

I don't like Grouping or the reading pane, or the "double
line" for emails over x number of characters.

I tried modifying the "messages" view as well as creating
a new view that I could apply -- but the reading pane,
grouping, and other parts of my customization don't stick
when I apply the view to a new folder.

We just converted to Outlook and this is driving people
NUTS at my company.

Thanks so much.

You might want to have a look at an article which talks about recovering the
"classic" Outlook interface -- Outlook 2003 made a lot of changes to this
interface, which many of us enjoy but some do not like.
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2003/interface.htm#classic If you
don't like the classic view either (or some parts of it), you'll have to
play around with the view settings further to see what works for you.

Also, you cannot propagate the new view settings to all folders at once, but
as long as you've saved the view for "All Mail folders", you can apply that
view to each mail folder individually the next time you open the folder.
You can either use View | Arrange By | Current View, or use the Views
dropdown box on the Advanced toolbar.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

For some reason the view I created would drop the reading
pane and grouping settings when I applied it to other
folders -- but I calmed down and tried again and what I
found is:

If I Modify the MESSAGE view, which is the default view,
ALL folders containg that view will update UNLESS I
previously messed with the view for that folder.

Yep, that's pretty much the way it works now. Any change you make to a
default view for a particular folder ends up being a "one-off" view.
