Outlook 2003 starts extra send/receive tasks

Getting/sending email on Outlook 2003 takes a long time because it starts
additional send/receive tasks while sending and receiving. About half the
time while it is getting/sending messages it creates another pair of
send/receive tasks and goes on repeating the send receive. No extra message
are brought over, and I can cancel the second tasks, but it is a pain to
have to do that so often.

I have the same problem.

I now have many duplicates msgs ( I only download the headers to start
with).

Tagging the msg for deletion from the server does nothing. How do I get rid
of the msgs tagged for deletion? Send/Receive does not get rid of them.

Error msg that the msgs are no longer on the server. That msg is correct as
we used another computer using Outlook XP to tag msgs for deletion and it
deleted msgs OK from Server.

Now have some 1200 msgs sitting in the outbox (on Computer with OL2003)
which are tagged for deletion.

Solution?
