Outlook 2003 should let ME decide whether I want to block a file .

What is this bull that "To provide enhanced security, Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 is designed to prevent you from unblocking attachments"? This
is a MAJOR inconvenience, and I want a way to override this default. I DO
NOT WANT my attachments blocked. I am fully aware of the threat of viruses
and the way that I see it, this is my risk to take or to not take.

I am angry with MS for not stating on the software box that I would not have
the capability to unblock attachments if I updated from my previous Outlook
version. . . otherwise, I'd have stuck with what I had. Newer is NOT always
better guys!
Is there ANY way to get around this inconvenience? If not, MS, please
create one!

You are way out of key. We dealt with this over 2 years ago. Versions of
Outlook other than Outlook 2003 also have this but it is added via a Service
Pack or update. I suggest you keep Outlook 2003 up to date to ensure it is
as secure as can be.

refer here: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm
for how to customise the blocked attachments list and access those files you
want to.

If I am wrong I apologize-- perhaps you can kindly explain why, with Outlook
2003, when I try to send an email link I get a message that "outlook has
blocked access to the following potential unsafe attachments" and why, when
I try to remove that block (as I could with my prior version of Outlook) that
I am told in the help box, "To provide enhanced security, Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 is designed to prevent you from unblocking attachments." These
are DIRECT quotes from microsoft. I would appreciate it if you could tell me
how to unblock this. I know that microsoft is against removing security
features, but I have an up to date version of Norton Anti-Virus and Internet
Security, and the latest MS security packs. I know that I am losing a lot of
virus protection if I lower my security settings in Outlook but that is what
I want to do. I got around this issue in my old version of Outlook, and if
there is a way around it in Outlook 2003, I'd like to know what it is-- the
help box makes it sound as though it is impossible. Thanks for any help you
can give.

lnk and url files are Level 1 attachments. you can send them with that
warning but if you send them to an up-to date Outlook 2000 or greater client
that doesn't have those file types moved to level 2 then they won't be able
to open them.
If you want to open lank or url yourself you move them to level 2. Check the
link I gave. There's a free add-in that will enable you to move them to
level 2. Note that level 2 files need to be saved to disc. If you move them
to level 2 then you will no longer get that warning.

There does seem to be an oddity when a url file is sent using the method
shown here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;284414&Product=out2003

It seems the file remains blocked whereas dragging and dropping it to a new
email works (provided the recipient has url moved to level 2). I'm looking
into this now.

Microsoft, after a lot of submissions, enabled moving files in level 1
(totally blocked) to level 2 (able to be saved).
