outlook 2003 send problem

Mark G.

when i create an email and send it, it usually works.

but sometimes it just sits in the outbox. no error message, no nothing.

there is a difference between the icons to the left of the ones that send
correctly, and the ones that dont.

the ones that send correctly look like a small closed (sealed?) envelope,
with 4 little tic marks to the side (thats the best way to describe it)

the ones that dont work appear to be an open evelope, with a letter on top
and to the left slightly.

if i reopen the ones that dont send, and hit send again, they still dont
send.

this is really annoying. anyone have any ideas of what is going on?

thanks,

mark

I'm seeing the same thing with occasional messages in OL 2003 using
POP3 access. My messages sit in the Outbox and show up as pending to
send, as they are counted in the number of unsent messages.

Instead of being just a message though, it will appear as a nested
item with a plus sign with no subject info.

The latest one shows just To: (none) (1 item).
If I click on the plus sign, it changes to a minus. It drops down
to show below it the letter and open envelope icon, the To: and
Subject: line, and the attachment icon. THis is being sent to a bcc:
list with 2 attachments.

Well, now that I've played with it, it's changed. The top level now
shows + Date:None. If I press the +, it opens the lower level to
show: the attachment icon, the Subject: line, the letter and open
envelope icon, and under Sent, it shows "none."

Any ideas?

Do you have McAfee version 7 on this machine?

G'Day Milly,

I have a same problem with messages staying in outbox. The messages are
actually sent and people end up getting multiple copies. This only happens
when there is a large attachment. I have McAfee Virusscan 8. Do you know
what is happening and how to fix it?

In best AOL fashion, I'd like to add 'me too' in that I have also started
getting the same problem, emails being stuck in the Outlook outbox with a
date of none, not italicised and not being able to send, the problem seems
to be random, forwarding the mail that is stuck seems to work, but the stuck
email itself cannot be sent.

I also have Norton AV 2004 and also Internet Security Pro 2004, am wondering
if it might be the Norton Outlook Antispam pluggin in some way?

I can now replicate the problem on three separate PCs, a laptop, and two
desktops, all have Windows XP, Outlook 2003, multiple accounts set up, all
have Norton 2004 goodies installed, two of them are clients machines and I
have a severely bent ear! Any ideas?

I've got a similar configuration and a similar problem. I have Outlook 2003
on my new computer and my old computer. Old computer has Norton AV 2004 and
Antispam 2004 installed. New one doesn't. On the old computer, if I send
immediately, the e-mails go off, but ordinarily I like to use Send/Receive
to send e-mails as I have a chance to revisit them before committing. When
the immediate send is off, if I so much as visit the outbox (not even
opening any of the emails), any e-mail that is highlighted becomes
deitalicized and cannot be restored to "send" status by opening and clicking
on the "send" button. If I load up the outbox with three or four emails and
then visit the outbox, only the top one which is highlighted loses its
italicization, but if I move the highlighting down through the list, I lose
them all one by one. Forwarding them does work to create a fresh italicized
copy that will go if I click on Send/Receive -- then I can delete the one
that didn't go.

I have no problem with the machine that has no antivirus protection and no
antispam software, but that may or may not be a clue.

I'm about to convert the disturbed machine to Mozilla so my wife who has
inherited the old machine will have some peace.

Hi Ted, see my other post on this subject, I finally tracked the damn thing
down, it was a bug with Norton, on the AntiSpam 2004 side, my other post in
microsoft.puiblic.outlook has all the details of what to do, good luck.
