I've just installed OUtlook 2003, imported my rules from Outlook Express 6
and they will not work automatically. I can run them automatically with no
problems.

Thanks

Wow, OL2003 really lets you import rules from OE? News to me. I knew it
would import items, like mail, notes, journals, and tasks, along with
importing mail account settings, and contacts, but I never heard of Outlook,
any version, importing rules from OE. I know that you can import rules that
were saved into a .rwz file but the .rwz file was created using Outlook's
Rules Wizard, not by OE.

try it on a new install. :) Migration capabilities are different than what
we see on a new profile.

Outlook 2003 (and 2002, I believe) will import OE rules. Click File>Import
and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses>Next. Select Outlook Express
and the "Import Rules" check box will be available.

Diane,

Thanks for the info. I've been using OE for a long time and don't really
have the experience with Outlook. In the past couple days of using it I've
noticed that every time I start Outlook in the morning their is a group of
messages that get downloaded again and again. I do have my server settings to
"leave a copy on the server" for all my accounts so when I get home I can
download them again. I've never had a problem with OE doing this. Also, is
their a way to add a person to a rule without creating it's on indivual rule?

Thanks again for your previous reply

On multiple downloads - how often as you checking new mail? if too often,
outlook begin retrieving from the account before it's finished the first
pass - and since it doesn't mark messages as downloaded until it's done, the
messages are re-downloaded, or outlook locks up and refuses to download more
until a reboot. We recommend no less than 8 -10 min, both to prevent
problems in Outlook and be kind to the server (constant checks use more
resources) and other users (only x number of people can download at once).

on the rule - there is an in address book rule - but it will apply to
everyone in the address book unless you set exceptions.

Thanks again for the good info. I was checking my e-mail automatically every
minute. I know it's a little over the top. I'll try your tip and see what
happens. Have an excellent weekend.

Thanks for the heads up. I use OL2003 and indeed it does have an Import
Rules option. I'll have to check on OL2002 when I get home tonight. And
here I've been manually rewriting the rules in Outlook from OE (but, of
course, some rules probably won't import correctly, like those in OE that
"delete from server" since Outlook doesn't have an equivalent rule).

While the server rules of OE may not import to Outlook, I've seen instances
of at least SOME rules that Outlook doesn't support natively but that OE
does importing and working correctly.
