Outlook 2003 Rules copy rather than move mail

I have set up Outlook 2003 to move certain e mails (based on the
addresses) to a different folder but instead of moving, the e mail;s
are copied.

I have looked in the support database and on this newsgroup but to no
avail.

is this "a feature" of O 2003?

Have you put "Stop processing any more rules" at the bottom of each rule?

edit the rule, and one of the options you will see says "Stop Processing
more rules". Chevk the box next to it and save the rule.

It's also possible that you picked the wrong "Action" from the Rules
wizard. Check your Rules again: Make sure the "Action" says "MOVE to
the specified folder" before you place a check-mark beside it.

Sorted, although I would like to know why the "Stop Processing more
rules" statement works.

And should I add that statement to all my other rules that currently
work OK or shall I use the maxim "If it aint broke......"

Outlook applies all rules, including subsequent ones to all messages as they
come in. If a rule moves it to another folder and doesn't stop Outlook from
processing those subsequent rules, then Outlook retains the original message
int he Inbox so that those subsequent rules can operate.
And should I add that statement to all my other rules that currently
work OK or shall I use the maxim "If it aint broke......"

If you get the results you want, don't change the rules further.
