Outlook 2003 - PST too big and lost messages

Guys,

this morning, checking the mail, I realized that my Outlook 2003 was
downloading (and erasing) my messages from the server but not showing them
on my inbox.

I thought something was wrong with my filters... No way, all my morning
messages disappeared.

Then I realized that my Outlook.pst file had reached its maximum size (2GB)
and that I have to convert it to the new format (now it's in Outlook 2000
format) in order to increase its max size.

But... what happened to my last messages?

Outlook downloaded them from the server... and? Where did it store them (if
it actually did...)?

I'd really appreciate if someone could tell me that today's mail isn't lost!

Thanks everybody in advance!

Did you get any error messages when the messages weren't stored (or
apparently not stored)? Many times if Outlook can't complete a mail
retrieval it won't remove the messages from the server

Nope... No errors. The message seemed to be stored regularly, except for the
fact that they are not visible in any of my folders.

How do you know that they are stored if they're not visible anywhere?

I actually don't know if they have been stored, but I guess they have been
written somewhere.

Even the craziest programmer in the world wouldn't redirect any incoming
mail to /dev/null (or to the trash can :) ), deleting it from the server,
when his routine realized that there's no free space on disk (or similar
conditions).

So I think that, since Outlook reported no errors on send/receive, my
messages must be on the pst... but Outlook cannot read them, because of its
size.
I still haven't tried the MS utility made for splitting a large psd into
separate "chunks"... I'll probably give it a try!

Thanks anyway Vince!
