we moved from wint nt 4 office 2000 to win xp office 2003 and the pst file seems to have dropped from 800,000kb to 22kb... !! ??
Can see it has todays date on the pst file in question and according to outlook it is in the location that is being used to store data file...

could it really have been shrunk that much??

No, doublecheck whether you are looking at the right pst-file. You must be
missing al your mail by now if this is the right file. An empty OL2003
pst-file is already 265KB

Is all the expected information there? or did the new installation create a default and your looking at that rather than the previous version

well this is truly bizarre. the bazillions of emails ARE showing in outlook but when I click on personal folders, and look at properties it is pointing to the tiny outlook.pst file.. in application data/username/etc etc

However I clicked on Properties, Folder size, and it checked it and looked through all the emails and gave me a suitably large number folder size...

the tiny pst file does have the current date and time on it as if its the one outlook is updating.

cracked it - just need to learn to read

the pst file was in
username/local settings/application data etc etc rather than
username/application data etc etc

phew... the worlds a little more sane after alll..

Good to hear you've got your sanity (and glasses?) back! ;-)
