This question is in regards to any information
available on possible upgrades on these files. In the
past, as many of you that support outlook know, Personal
folders have been a source of nagging issues. Has
anything been done to address this? Are there any new
alternatives to using Personal folders? Thanks in advance
for your time.

Happy Holidays,

Eddie

What, specifically, are you asking about? Outlook still uses Personal
Folders, they have not changed this except for a new unicode .pst file that
has larger storage possibilities.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the Swen
virus, all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted
w/out reading.

I think that he specifically refers to the fact that pst-files are faulty.
The chance of one being corrupted or unreadable without apparent reason are
too high.
I have had several problems with them, so have co-workers. The
scanpst-utility is only half a solution.

I was hoping too that MS would have done some work on making the pst's more
reliable, which according to your reply, they haven't.

PS: "all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted" -- why do
provide an e-mailaddress on which all incoming messages are deleted? Why not
simply remove the e-mailaddress?

One big help for someone moving from earlier versions of Outlook will be to
set up Outlook 2003 Personal Folders to use the wnew unicode format. You
configure a new personal folder with the new formatting from the Mail
control panel. Beforehand, change the name of your existing Personal Folder.
When you launch Outlook 2003 you can then import the old Personal Folder
contents into your new one.

Note: My opinions are my own and not my employer's.

Bear in mind however, that moving to the new format will provide few
benefits for users who have no need to reach or exceed the 2G limit in PST
size and will migrate the user to a PST format no longer compatible with
earlier versions. Many users may well be better served by simply configuring
Outlook 2003 to use their previous PST file so they can remain compatible
with earlier versions should they ever need to back out or synchronize to
earlier versions.
