Outlook 2003 Outbox Hang-up

Occasionally I discover that while messages have gone to the outbox, they are
not sent. There is no relationship between message size or the number of
messages in the outbox. Unless I occasionally scroll down in my folder list
to the outbox, there is no indication that messages have not been sent. If
I try to send the messages in the oubox, it will simply indicate "Sending msg
1 of ___" but nothing is transmitted.
To send the messages, I must close and restart Outlook.

If you have your antivirus program configured to scan outgoing mail, uninstall
it and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.
