I upgraded from office xp professional(2002) to office
professional 2003 on my toshiba satellite 1135-s155
laptop running wondows xp home edition. the program was
working fine until i tried to "right click" the toolbar
and clicked customize. now outlook hangs when i try to
start it up. i used the safe mode and it started then i
closed the program and did a shutdown and started the
computer back up. now it hangs when i try to open outlook.

i also did the same upgrade to my desktop running win xp
pro and i am not having any trouble there. (purchased the
10 volume license.)

Thank you for any help

Try going into Outlook in Safe Mode again, go to Tools,
Options, Other, Advanced Options, Add-in Manager. You may
want to try turning some add-ins on or off, sometimes
unchecking and re-checking addins resolves problems like
this.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the defaults for the
toolbars and buttons.

Outlook will not start in Safe Mode or any mode. I tried
using the Detect and Repair option when i first started
having trouble and now it hangs on a screen that says
Migrating Account Settings
Migrating Preferences
Creating Welcome Screen
Importing User Data

I loaded the suite last night and it worked for a couple
of hours just fine.

Try using Find to search for a file named outcmd.dat. CLose Outlook, rename
that file, then restart Outlook.

You may have to set Windows to show you hidden files through Windows
Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. You also may have to set Windows
Find to search hidden files and folders by selecting Advanced options on the
Find Window.

I had some issues with 2002 and a tech at Microsoft had
me delete the Outlook.cmd file. Would that work at this
point?

Thank you Patrick, that did the trick. You guys are the
best!!!
