Outlook 2003 "Not Responding"

I seem to be having recurring problems with Outlook 2003 just
stopping.

The message from the icon on the taskbar is "Microsoft Office Outlook
is synchronising folders"

I've checked my mail settings, have one profile, with about 6 POP/SMTP
services. I did have another profile with some MAPI mail services
specified (dont know where it came from, possibly during upgrade?) but
I've removed it a yesterday, have rebooted several times, and I'm
still experiencing the stops.

There is no Microsoft Exchange involvement (and never has been)

So what is Outlook trying to talk to?

It seems to quite often stop during Send/Receive, but I think this is
coincidence cos when it is restarted it will sometimes complete. And
sometimes it stops when I'm not even looking (and Send/Receive is not
showing on the status bar).

Any clues would be welcome, cos if I cant get this solved I'll give up
and go back to Outlook 2000.

TIA,

JohnK

Sorry, is there an original post (apart from the one enquiring about
going back)?

I did try and post this yesterday, but its not appearing on my News
Server so I posted again.

Was there a reply I missed?

Thanks,

JK

Yes, about 12 hours before your repost.

Anyway;
Synchronising; getting your mail. Where does the "Not Responding" of your
subject kick in?

Thats weird - Definitely not listed here! - Sorry.

Its happens very unpredicatbly, but I think I may have found it!

FYI I have several Rules which look at incoming mail a direct it to
various folders. Most of these use folders in the same (base) PST
file, but one of them specifies a move to a folder in another PST
file. I've turned this Rule off and haven't had a stop since then (now
3 hours up - it was happening about every 15 mins before).

FWIW both PST files concerned are Outlook 2003 format (although I do
have a couple of older PST files which are open at the same time, but
not involved in any Rules).

Thanks for looking at my post.

Good to hear you've found it. Do things work correctly after you've
recreated the rule? Additionally you might want to check your pst-files for
errors with scanpst.exe. Additionally you could clean your Deleted Items
folder (as this is being used when moving items -copy and then delete) and
run Compact Now. Also make sure your pst-files are not on a networkshare.
This can cause a lag and a performance drop as well.
