I have had a few people ask why one day all of a sudden, when they type in
the first few characters, the auto name resolution just stopped responding.

They type the first few letters, and usually the drop down appears with
option, but now it doesnt.

Any ideas?

We are using OL2003 w. SP1 on WinXP boxes.... Thanks in advance....

That's not auto name resolution, that's autocompletion. The former occurs
when you tab out of an address field. The latter happens when you being
typing in an address field and you've previously resolved addressed
containing the characters you've typed.

The typical cause of this is corruption of the autocompletion cache. It's
usually repaired by 1) deleting or renaming the existing name cache and
letting Outlook recreate it or 2) creating a new mail profile. The name
cache is found in the (hidden) folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook and is named yourprofile.NK2, where
"yourprofile" is, of course, your mail profile name.

Chris,

There is a very good chance that the autocomplete file (NK2) is not
corrupted, or if it is corrupted that our utility can recover the data in
it. It is also likely that the corresponding profile data is corrupted in
the registry.

If you write me at sales at www.dcs-imaging.com I will send you a document
explaining in much detail info. about the NK2 file and also about how to fix
and re-create if necessary a new file, but hopefully while retaining the
file's contents.
