Outlook 2003 messages no longer showing extending characters

Has anyone else experienced this recently? It started happening over the
last week. Does anyone know how to correct this issue?

What do you mean by "extending characters"?
 
Sorry. I receive a lot of messages from Asia. For some reason my computer
at the office is displaying squares and question marks in some of the
messages, Instead of a hard return or a letter as part of a word.
