SBS 2003 Users cannot run mail merge from Outlook 2003 after
SBS 2003 deploys Outlook 2003 on PCs w/ Office XP already in place.

A message box pops up stating:

"To user this feature, you must install the version of Microsoft Word that
matches the installed version of Microsoft Office Outlook."

Should the PCs go back to Outlook XP or must they upgrade to Office 2003 to
get this feature to work again?

Is there a possible work around for this?

thx in advance for any help!

Outlook 2003 will require Word 2003 in order for mail merge to work. You
can either upgrade Word XP to Word 2003 or revert Outlook to Outlook XP; in
any case, both Outlook and Word must be the same version.

We ran into the same problem. We couldn't believe Microsoft wouldn't have
provided some utility to handle this. There are, however, 3rd party utilities
that can fix this. One we found was the Mail Merge Toolkit from Mapilabs. It
adds an interface between Word XP and Outlook 2003 - which also adds
functionality. It's not very expensive and seemed to work great in some
testing we did. No need to purchase Word 2003 just to get to do mail merges
again.
