I want to enable the junk mail filter but I can't unless I enable "use
cached exchange mode". When I go to the dialog box to do this, the ""use
cached exchange mode" checkbox is greyed out. I've installed Office 2003 on
both my desktop PC and my laptop (and applied the updates). Both
installations use the same exchange server and both were configured to use
OST. Yet, the checkbox is disabled only on the desktop PC. Any suggestions
anyone?

Further info. In spite of having select OST as opposed to DESK when setting
up the profile, the option to "WORK OFFLINE" does not appear in the file
menu??????

Problem solved. You can't just upgrade from Office 2002. You have to
uninstall Office 2002, then delete the registry data for

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\***user***

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office]

THEN you can install Office 2003.

I would try making a new profile and see if it works.
