Hi,
I have been asked by a client to setup a new network for his business. He requires a LAN with the a single Windows 2003 Server and 6 Windows XP Clients running Office 2003.
The catch is, no client on the LAN will be connected to the Internet, but he still requires the users to be able to use Outlook to internal be able to send emails to on another. In a previous role (a number of years ago) I setup a MS Mail Postoffice for such a task, but all the documentation I have read to-date is telling me that Outlook 2003 does not support this anymore?
Surely Microsoft realises that there are (small) businesses out there that still require such a setup? Is there anyone out these who can suggest a solution to this issue that I have?
Regards,
Brendan Field

This is true, but there is a solution. Windows 2003 server includes e-mail
services (POP3/SMTP). I guess the big question is... are you setting up a
small active directory site or is it going to be strictly peer to peer. (by
the way, i've never setup e-mails services on a DC/GC, only member and
stand-alone servers.)

While Win2k3's pop server (or any other email server) might be a better
option, if you really want MSMail, see

Another option might be Kerio Mail Server (www.kerio.com) - also will
provide internet mail presuming the server will have an Internet
connection....

Why not SBS2003! It has all the tools to simplify the installation and for
the same price of a Windows Server 2003 Standard, you can get SBS 2003
Standard and also get Exchange server!
