Outlook 2003 - Folders

With Outlook 2003 minimised to the tray, it constantly flashes as
'synchronising folders" - Rather annoying as it does it all the time and it
slows the system.

Questions:

1. What exactly is it doing?
2. How can I stop it?

What type of accounts do you have and do you use Cached mode?

I have a normal POP account and a Hotmail account, both run through Outlook
2003.

I have no idea if I am using cached mode!!!!!
 
What interval do you have set for your send/receive?

No, I am talking about the interval you have set Outlook to check for new
mail. "Check for new mail every xx minutes" - this is what causes the
revolving envelopes in the system tray, Outlook checking for new mail.

It sends and receives every 3 minutes.

Surely whatever time I put, it will still do this?
