Hi

Client: Windows XP with SP2 running Outlook 2003 with SP1
Server: Exchange Server 2003 with SP1

I am having an issue with several users on our network involving
disconnection from the e-mail server from within Outlook.

More often that not, rather than saying 'Connected' in the lower right hand
corner, it says 'Trying to connect..' and is never able to actually do so.

The client machine is not running any software firewalls and is still able
to ping the email server, and can also access OWA (hosted on our exchange
server) with no difficulties.

I have tried a number of things on the client side to correct this issue,
including re-installation of Office entirely, re-installation of network
card drivers, etc. Occasionally the 'detect and repair' option will fix the
problem - but it is temporary.

Has anyone else run into this issue, or have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the network or server is busy. This doesn't address your
problem, but have you considered using cached mode? It is designed to
'smooth out the bumps' such as this.
That said, more info about your network would help. Hub or switch? All NICs
locked down at 100/full (not using autosense)? Any other apps having
problems accessing largeish stuff from the server? How big are the
mailboxes?
