I just upgraded to Office Professional 2003. All software works except
Outlook. When I click on the icon, the program will load in the safe mode
for the first time. If I exit, and click the icon again, nothing
happens...must reboot the computer to use Outlook, and then only in the safe
mode. I checked account info, and all settings are correct. Any ideas how
to correct.

Account settings have nothing to do with this. What do you mean by "only Safe Mode"

Have you tried Detect and Repair . Outlook\Help\Detect and Repair

Peter...thanks for your reply. When I click the Outlook icon, nothing
happens. If I try multiple times, I get one of two error messages: Outlook
not responding. If using an Exchange Server e-mail account, you can cancel
pending Server requests by clicking the Outlook icon in the notification area
and then clicking cancel server request on the shortcut. The other message
says something to the effect that Outlook cannot load...would you like to
start in safe mode, yes, no. If I click yes, Outlook opens in the safe
mode...once I exit the program, I cannot restart, without rebooting the
system and trying again. Also, when the program installed, it placed two
icons in the system tray, and another in the tray where Norton, etc. usually
resides. I have disabled Norton System Works and Firewall, and uninstalled
an after market spam filter (I Hate Spam), uninstalled and reinstalled Office
2003 without any change. Frustrating. Also, how do I access the
Outlook\Help\Detect and Repair link you suggested...do I do this once inside
Outlook (in the safe mode) or how...thanks for your willingness to help and
patience with me on this

So, are you using an Exchange server?

You can do it from within Outlook in Safe Mode, yes. Or you can use Control
Panel>Add and Remove Programs by selecting the Office (or Outlook, if listed
separately) entry and clicking Change. There will be a "repair" option.

Thanks Brian...I have road runner for ISP, so not sure if this is an Exchange
Server or not. I will try the repair option when I get home tonight, but I
installed and reinstalled Office twice...does the repair feature have any
benefit over another install? Thanks again.

It's not. Road Runner is POP/SMTP.

I think so. It's usually quicker, for one thing. Also, try creating a new
mail profile.

This issue is fully resolved...thank you Brian. I followed the instructions
on creating a new profile and it totally resolved the issue. Can I now
delete the old profile or leave it alone since I have selected Always use
this profile and have the new profile listed. Thanks again...
