Outlook 2003 Crashes Immediately When Opened

Using Win XP Home ...

When I try to open Outlook 2003, it opens and almost immediately closes.
Sometimes when I attempt to open it, I must open it 10 -15 times before it
remains open. I get no error message. I assume there is some type of
conflict going on, but with no error message, I haven't got a clue as to
where to start.

I am not having this problem with any other software.

does it open using the /safe swich?

at the Start menu, run, type outlook.exe /safe

If it runs, go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and rename outcmd.dat.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
Swen virus, all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted w/out
reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer

Thanks, Diane, and Milly, too. I changed the file name as you suggested and
haven't had any problems.

To Milly ... I suspect your answer would have worked, too, but I never got
around to trying it as Diane's solution did the trick.
