So how are the new contacts supposed to be customized? Are there plans to
fix this rather large oversite?

What oversight are you referring to? Outlook has had customizable contact
forms in all versions.

Hi Jesslyn,

I have not heard from you about this issue.

I have performed some research and found some information about how to
customize contacts. I would like to share it with you.

If you want to customize the view of Contacts, use the following steps:

1. Open Outlook
2. Choose Contacts folder
3. Click View | Current View | Define Views?? (Since you mentioned your
Contacts are displayed in directory, I assumed you have chosen the Current
View to be Phone list)
4. Click <Current view settings> and then click Modify in the pop up Define
Views for "Contacts" box
5. Click Fields and there is pop up a box titled Show Fields
6. The column on the right side is the fields in your current view
settings. Choose Last Name and click Move Up.
7. Choose Business Fax and Click Remove
8. You may add fields from left column titled Available fields.
9. After you finish customization, click OK twice and then click Apply View

For more information, take a look at the following articles:

As for the issue, please collect the following information to further
investigation:

1. What features do you want to customize?

2. What do you want the contacts to be?

3. What do you mean by saying "oversite"?

4. Did you encountered problems when customizing contacts?

5. Is the account configured in Outlook is an Exchange account or some
other?

I am waiting for your update. Have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards

Hi Alan

Sorry for bumping in like that
Maybe you have a solution to a problem that I have with Contacts

When I am in MS-Word, I'd like to insert a Contact-Address
This works perfectly well with the button "Insert Address" that I added to the Word toolbar

There is this small problem however
The Contact-list appearing after hitting that "Insert Address" button shows Contacts as "First Name, Last Name"
And I would like it the opposite way arround
Can you help me to solve this please

And another thing is
The "Insert Address Button" feature only works when Outlook is my default e-mail program
I would like it to work as well if the above isn't true
Let me explain
I have all my contact info (names, addrresses, phone numbers, etc) stored in Outlook
This became quite a usefull list through the years
I want to continue using this info in MS-Word for inserting addresses, making labels, etc
The company that I am working for has chosen Lotus Notes for e-mailing however
That means that Outlook is not my default e-mail program
Which means in turn that inserting Contact Info with the "Insert Address Button" does not work anymore
Can you provide me with some precious help on this one too please

Thank you so much in advance
Picsou

WHen customizing the new 2003 contact form, you get the old 2002 look of the
form, am I wrong in this?

This is normal. The new contact form layout in OL2003 and the included
picture control are not available to programmers, who will see the older
layout when they put an Outlook 2003 contact form into design mode. One
workaround is to use an image control, as described at
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/formpicture.htm#control .

For other contact form idiosyncracies, see
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/contactform.htm

So any changes will be updated into the new format, we just cannot use the
picture control?

You cannot use the picture control and the default layout is that of the
OL2002 contact form. You can rearrange it, of course, to make it look more
like the OL2003 layout.

Hi Jesslyn,

As customizing Form is related to develop, therefore, it appears that this
is a Development related request. I suggest you post in the Developer
newsgroups, as it would be it would be more efficient to resolve the issue.
For your convenience, I have provided the link below:

Thanks for your understanding.

Have a nice day!
