I can use perfectly most of the time in hotels but problems found at home.
"Trying to connect" displayed intermittently for about 15 minutes before
"Connected". Then "Trying to connect" displayed intermittently.
Synchronisation has been occasionlly successfully.
I suspect some kinds of connectivbity problems with my router at home.
Could some one give any idea ?

Sounds like you have an idea already but without motivation it is hard for
us to tell you if your assumption is correct.

Roady,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I'd like to write more details :
1. I travel frequently and the Outlook/VPN works well most of the time.
2. I found problems to get emails at home.
a) HTTP applications works perfectly.
b) Up to now I found no other Internet connection problems including VPN
connections. OWA also works perfectly.
c) Even the Outlook shows "connected", no emails can be transferred.
d) Before I post here, I have searched thru the Net. Many similar problems
but no definite answers. Some info just mention the router/computer setting.
I hope some one here can give idea :
1. Is it possible due to my router ?
2. What kind of adjustment/settings to my Notebook or my router can be done ?

It could indeed be very well your router or modem but I wouldn't directly
rule out any other issue either.

To troubleshoot your modem and router, Start with resetting them; just turn
them off for a few minutes before turning them back on.

If the issue still persists, check if they have a firewall enabled in them.
This could be blocking your traffic. Disable any of them and see if the
problem goes away. Additionally you could verify if your modem/router fully
supports VPN pass-through and/or if there are firmware updates to them.

Roady,
I have done a lot more and advanced testing than what you wrote down.
I am trying to work with the CS of the router manufacturer.
I have a lot of experience in hardware. However I am weak at Outlook and
Windows TCP/IP stuff.
The same set of hardware had worked normally before I updated Windows XP to
SP3 and changed to use Cisco VPN client.
Please search thru the Net about similar problems before you write furhter.

Thanks anyway
