What is switch in OUTLOOK 2003 to specify the SUBJECT and BODY? In OL 2000
/m switch allows to specify mailto:email?subject=something&body=something
etc. This DOES NOT work in OL 2003. Any1 has any idea why this won't work?

tia

this works for me: (all one line)
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c ipm.note /m
(e-mail address removed);[email protected]?subject=something&body=something

Tnanks Diane. When I run your command (in a single line) from the DOS prompt
I am getting the following error.

;[email protected]?subject=something&body=something
'body' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

This happens on WIN 2K + Office 2K3 and WIN XP Pro + Office 2K3 machines. Do
I need to install any SPs?

tia

I have winxp/sp2 and office 2003/sp1 - so it's possible that sp1 is
required. I never used the subject/body command on a shortcut - I use them
in mailto's only - so i can't say if they were broken in rtm. I know that in
RTM, multiple commands that worked in older versions failed - things like /m
/a . I guess I should check to see if they are fixed in SP1... nope. Still
broken.

I have winxp/sp2 and office 2003/sp1. I read the following article.
Eventhough office 2003 is not affected by this I am not sure Microsoft
removed this functionality due to this vulnarability.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-009.mspx

The strange thing is from Start-Run window if I type
mailto:myalias?subject=test&body=test, this opens up a new outlook message
window with To, Subject and Body populated.

I don't think that vulnerability has anything to do with it - other mvps
tested it and it works. Write (or paste) the command line in notepad and
triple check it for accuracy.

Also, are you using word or outlook as the editor? It shouldn't matter, but
if the command you are using is correct there is obviously something causing
it to not work for you and we'll eliminate the obvious ones first. :)

[I checked it using Word as my editor, Exchange account, and Unicode
mailbox.]

Here is the command I am trying to execute.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11>outlook.exe -c ipm.note -m
mailto:MyAlias?subject=test&body=testbody

From the DOS prompt being in the office11 folder when I execute the above
command I get the following error. But at the same time a new mail window is
launched with the alias and subject populated. Note that Body is not
populated and notice the error.

'body' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I also swapped subject and body as follows. Now I get the following error.

Ah... We're entering it in the Start menu, Run dialog.

Ok, in playing around, try quotes around the last string:
cmd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c ipm.note /m
"(e-mail address removed)?subject=something&body=something"

BTW, the escape character before the & allows it to work too:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c ipm.note /m
(e-mail address removed)?subject=something^&body=something
