Outlook 2003: changes to sender's profile

One of my users had a problem sending emails because her address in the
profile had had an extra k added; eg (e-mail address removed). Removing the extra letter
worked fine, has anybody come across this happening as a result of a bug or
virus? Or is it just this a case of PICNIC?
 
I have no idea what PICNIC stands for, but if happens to do with anything
about the unknown variable that sits between the keyboard and chair, that
would be my guess.
 
He probably meant; PEBKAC :-D
