Hi

Im trying to apply a MS exchange mail account to a users
laptop. everytime i type in the server name and the users
name and click check name i get the following error.

"the action could not be completed. The connection to the
microsoft exchange server is unavailable. outlook must be
online or connected to complete this action."

ive installed outlook as the administrator for the machine
and ive tried installing it on the users domain login but
neither corrects the problem.

is there something really simple that im missing?

the laptop is running Win2k SP4 and Outlook 2003.

Thanks in advance.

Russ

Can you ping the server by FQDN? Doublecheck if the DNS settings are correct
on the server, client and in the DNS for server and the client. Also make
sure that a local firewall on the client isn't blocking the connection.

Hi

yes, i can ping the server. The DNS settings are correct
on the server as no other machines are affected.

ive set the machine to obtain IP address and DNS addresses
automatically.

There isnt a firewall on the client machine.

Does the same issue occur when you want to configure it logged in as another
user? If so reinstall TCP/IP on the client and try again.

the same happens with another user.

a collegue has suggested that there could be something
wrong with RPC with TCP but thats a little over my head.
Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for your responses so far.

Well that is why I suggested to reinstall the TCP/IP :-)

Remove the TCP/IP from the networkcard configuration and add it again
