Outlook 2003 - Can I use Word 2000 as my email editor?

We generally use Office 2000 but recently upgraded Outlook 2000 to Outlook
2003. When we did this we discoverd that the "use word as my email editor"
was grayed out. Some people on the internet are saying that we HAVE to
purchase Word 2003 to get this to work. Is this true? any proof? I cannot
find anything on Microsoft's support website about this.

Outlook and Word indeed need to be of the same version for this to work.

Thank you both for responding; can you guys name your sources? I would like
to research any possibility of altering the registry to make it work.

Sure. I'll name Roady as my source.
What more do you need?
This has been common knowledge for so long it is now in the public domain.
I don't care if you don't believe me. But you should at least believe Roady.

I don't wish to offend anybody. It's my first time posting here and I guess I
don't know what constitutes an "MVP". Are they considered experts in
Microsoft products? I am a Systems Administrator myself and was looking for a
way to cut serious costs for my company by looking for an alternative way to
make it work without resorting to purchasing Word 2003 just for the email
editing capability. Any additional help or referals would be most helpful.

No one was offended. It's just that this information is very well documented
and has been for some time. Sue has already pointed you to one of the many
references.

Excellent. Thank you for the "proof" that I was looking for. Anyone know of
any registry hacks to get around this?

Indeed, there are none. It's not that simple. The functionality of WordMail
changes a great deal from one version to the next. You don't change that
with a reg hack.
