I have setup each folder I want to archive.
It was working fine (on SP1) back in March.
It has not archived anything since March 2nd... so I updated to SP2... same
problem.

I try running manually or auto... neither work.

Any help is appreciated!

Check the Last Modified date on the items that aren't being archived as
you think they should. That's the date Outlook uses to determine
whether or not an item is ready to be archived, and a simple action such
as moving the item to another folder can change the Last Modified date.
More information and a list of actions that change the Last Modified
date can be found here:

Many of the emails have not been touched since March 2003...
The last modified date has nothing to do with this problem as the modified
dates are the same date as the creation dates.

Any way you can help fix this?

You did actually look at the modified dates, and didn't just assume
they're the same, right? As the MSKB article I pointed to you explains,
the modified date can be changed in many different ways, and you might
not realize it...

Do you get any error messages when you try to archive? What is the file
size of the archive file?

Yes, I did actually look otherwise I would have not made the statement
saying they were the same... I do my homework. I'm a 10 year professional
Microsoft Engineer and actually worked for Microsoft for 5 years (Redmond
for 3 of those). This is a problem that I can find no answer to. I have
reinstalled with no change.

How can we isolate the cause?

What methods are there to troubleshoot Outlook's archive features?

highest regards,
Aaron

Sorry, but you'd be amazed how many people say "I know the dates are the
same because I haven't touched the stuff!" when they haven't even
checked :-) I always have to ask. You may have missed my second
paragraph in that reply -- "Do you get any error messages when you try
to archive? What is the file size of the archive file?"

No error appears.

the PST size is 32 MB

If I manually kick-off the Archive (via Tools \ Mailbox Clean-up) it runs
through the folder (lower left status bar corner), VERY QUICKLY, and that is
it.

If looking at the PST file date... It does show that the PST is updated. But
I have the PST attached as a folder in OL Folder List and I see no emails
newer then March 2003. It should have thousands more. My Outlook.pst is 207
MB.

thanks for helping!

I had the same problem as described but with Outlook 2000. The modified date kept changing on a regular interval. I finally realized our corporate anti-virus was running a silent full scan which included my email. As the scan was being performed, it would update the 'modified' date. I changed the scan setting to not include my emails and the problem went away. Hope this helps. JD.

Same problem here. I interrupted the autoarchive process on the first
run because I realized I had set the archive date of my emails too
close to today's date and decided to set it back. As a result of this
interruption, the modified dates of some real old emails have changed
to a more recent date which is preventing autoarchive from doing its
job. Is there a way to set the modified dates back to their original
date of the received email so autoarcive can start woring again?

I would like to avoid manual archive that's why I want to have
autoarchive back.

TIA
