Laides and Gentlemen,
after installing outlook 2002 on the computer I have the
problem that the generated rules are automatically updated
if the rule wizard is closed. Due to the big amount of
rules I am using it is not possible to activate all rules
on the server. With the previous version of outlook it was
possible to select between automatic or manual update of
the server. In the actual one this is not possilbe within
the rule wizard.
Is there a way to keep oll rules on the client and prevent
this update of the server?
Due to the fact that the client is up and running 24h / 7
days a week we can leave away the point that the rules
will only be processed if the client is up and running.

In Outlook 2002, the rules are stored as part of the mailbox, so if your
mailbox is on an Exchange Server, the rules will always be there.

You may be able to modify the rules to make them client-only (menaing they
have no choice but to wait until the client is open before they fire because
they are dependent on a certain client function). You can read some more
info on this here:

Many thanks for the pointer Patrick, I will try it.
By the way: the system Software is Windows 2000
professional SP4 and additional patches english version
Outlook 2002 SP2 english version
The client is always connected to the Server and the
Mailbox is located only on the server and no download /
copy to a folder located at the client is done.

A solution for the client is needed due to the limited
capacity of the server to store active rules that is not
changable.

My experience seems to disagree a little with that site. For example, it
says that "With specific words in sender's address" depends on the Outlook
client. I have one of those rules and it does not say "client-only" as I
would expect it to. Also, I add the "mark it as read" condition to any rule
and it becomes a "client-only" rule, yet this action is not listed on the
web site as being a client-dependent action. Perhaps the web site doesn't
congtain an exhaustive list.
