I originallly installed Outlook 2002 in early 2004. Because I suddenly
developed sync problems, and because I had not originally installed it
as a mail/news reader, I decided to reinstall.

I uninstalled the original installation, which I now see may have been a
big mistake. When I reinstalled, it asked for the Product Key. I keep
all my software keys in a password protected file. When I input the key
I had listed as "Pocket PC 2003 Premium Outlook/ActivSync (Dell)", the
installer said it was an invalid number.

Can someone tell me what I do now? I'm not a regular Microsoft app
user, so I haven't got the faintest idea what to do.

Many TIA.

Outlook doesn't read news anyway, so that doesn't factor in at all.

The key you use to install Outlook should be on the documentation you
received with your PDA, on the Certificate of Authenticity. It isn't the
say key you'll see if you click Help>About in Outlook.

Thanks, but neither news nor mail enters in. I never suggested that it
did! I had an unsolveable sync problem, as I indicated.

Like I said above, I installed it early 2004, putting the key in a
protected file on my computer. That key did not work!!!

Although I don't recall where I obtained the original key, it was not
from a Certificate of Authenticity. Those come with MS discs, not Dell
disks.

The correct answer to my question is:
Try http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011508341033.aspx

I did, and now everything is fine.

Thanks again.

I notice you make a lot of posts. Are you a Microsoft employee?

All of my Dell disks came with Certificates of Authenticity for each of the
Microsoft programs that were included with the bundle I bought.

Great. Did that product key bear any resemblance to the one you had in your
secure file?

Lordy, no. I'm just "vocal".

The only resemblance was that it was alphanumeric and had 5 segments of
5 characters. FWIW, I note that there is not even consistency in the
position of numbers or letters.

I hate to admit it, but I just, accidently, discovered that I had
scanned and saved the Certificate of Authenticity for Outlook.

The key on the C of A was exactly the same as what MS Customer Service
gave me yesterday, not what I had recorded in my protected file.

Makes me wonder if the same key was used for all Dell Axim X3s. or
maybe there was some sort of registration I did, that I have also
forgotten about. The latter would have allowed them to 'recognize' me.

Just thot you mite be interested.
