Outlook 2002 Personal Folder problem

When booting the system and just as Outlook started
loading it gave me the following message:

the data file "old personal folders" was not closed
properly. this file is being checked for problems.

I watched the little window showing the minutes that took
to check and at the end Outlook worked fine. It was very
annoying and time consuming. I was planning to address
the issue in the same forum I'm doing now but then
disaster hit. I had to re-install everything. I used
Norton Ghost and re-installation worked perfectly!
Outlook did not give any problems and the personal
folders message disappeared. Then I went to install all
the new MS office security patches and at the end the MS
Office SP3. Immediately after installation of the SP3 the
personal folders problem reappeared. Is the SP3 the
culprit? is it not? I couldn't say for sure. One thing is
sure the problem reappeared after installation of the SP3.

I need to fix this problem! All suggestions are welcomed

tks

If you remove the current PST file and create a new one does the error
message persist? If it does not give the error then I would import from the
old PST and test.

I hope this information is helpful.

I am not sure whether I am replying to response to my message because I
cannot see my message. Actually I have a problem with Outlook 2003 not 2002.
I tried to create a new personal folder file in Outlook 2003 and import the
file from Outlook 98. I get the same message "the file backup.pst is not a
personal folder file"

Thanks,

Stefania

So do you get the error message before you import the old data into the new
.pst file? If not then it sounds like a corrupt .pst file and you may want
to try repairing it using the Inbox Repair Tool. Here is a link to an
article that explains how to use the Inbox Repair Tool,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;287497.

I hope this information is helpful.

I tried to repair the file but I get the message " "Inbox Repair Tool does
not recognize the file backup.pst. No information can be recovered".

I was searching internet and found out that there are lot's of people that
have the same problem with Outlook 2003.

Thanks,

Stefania

The only thing I can think of to do would be to use the new .pst file and
open the old file as a secondary .pst file in Outlook, which should give
you access to the data without causing problems to the new .pst file.

Hello Robert,

You will be glad to hear that I copied my old OL'98 messages from the old
computer to the new computer using a flash drive and the file is OK. I can
open it in OL'03 with no problems. I still don't understand why copying it by
burning CD (repeatedly into different files) would corrupt it. Anyway, I am
very, very happy and my problem is solved.

Thank you for your assistance,

Stefania
