Outlook 2002 keeps asking for network password

Hello all,
Well I'm baffled. I've set up two email accounts, both with account name
and passwords fully filled in, with the checkbox to remember the password
checked (I even went so far as to repeat that process for the outgoing
server, though I'm quite certain my outgoing SMTP does NOT require
authentication - tried both the "same settings" option AND the "log on
using" option), and yet, periodically, when Outlook goes to check the server
either automatically or manually by me, I get the "Enter Network Password"
dialogue box. This isn't consistant, but sometimes happens with EXTREMELY
annoying regularity. Anybody know of a fix for this?
Thanks in advance,
Geoffrey Carter

If you are still having problems after applying both the SP 1 & 2 patches,

Hi Milly,
It turns out I had SP2 for Windows XP already, but I found SP3 for "Office
XP", which I installed. That seemed to do the trick! Thank you so much (my
scalp is also grateful)!

Well, I spoke too soon. Worked for a few days, then Outlook was back to
it's old tricks, asking for network password again.
