Outlook 2002 Error Msg 0x800CCC0E "Cannot Connect to Server"

Today, I downloaded some "critical updates" - one for IE 6.0, another for Office 2002 -- and suddenly, I am unable to connect to any of my HTTP accounts in Outlook 2002. I have deleted and re-established the accounts, shut computer down and then back on, shut down my cable modem connection for a minute then back on, etc. What's more confusing, I can access all these accounts directly through the web - e.g. my web connection is fine. I'm guessing it's a problem with the mail server or the Outlook client, but don't understand why it suddenly happened nor how to fix. Any ideas? Thank you!

Thanks for your reply, Peter -- sorry, no idea what you mean by "AV" -- Audio Visual?! I haven't tried to disable anything recently, to my knowledge. All I did was to download several "critical updates" for WinXP and OfficeXP -- after receiving a Security Update (as I do every month or so) from Microsoft.

As a side -- the day after I posted this, I opened Outlook and had a connection for all my HTTP (note, they are all Hotmail) accounts -- I was overjoyed! But, it was shortlived, and since then (5 days) it has been back to square 1 -- it's as if the accounts aren't even "trying" to connect to a server, as the error message is practically immediate.

I am still having no problem accessing all these accounts through Hotmail directly

Would appreciate any further input you might have. Thank you

Dear Confused and Dazed

I've had a similar problem to the one you describe on Outlook 2000, and I believe it also started at about the same time as downloading the latest Office Security Patches.

I posted my problem today and highlighted that yourself and at least one other user has had the same problem.

Sorry I haven't got a solution, but I hope Microsoft respond soon!

Cheers

for error 0x800CCC0E there is usually an update done to the computer (i.e.
antivirus, firewall, router, etc.) the best option I can give is try to
connect in outlook express. If not try to use telnet to determine if your
computer can even contact the email servers. If telnet fails then you need
to contact your ISP or operating system support to figure out what is
blocking the connection.
